London, UK – Leading mixed martial arts promotion Bellator MMA today announced an electric lightweight main event as the promotion confirmed its return to Dublin’s 3Arena on Saturday, October 3.
Following two sold-out events in 2019 and one last month, Bellator will bring a fourth stacked card to the Irish capital in less than two years in what is expected to be another night of world class MMA action in the Bellator European Series.
Headlining the event is Dublin’s very own Peter “The Showstopper” Queally (12-5-1), who is set to bring the house down again when he faces Brazilian MMA veteran, Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (23-9) inside the Bellator cage. Additional bouts will be announced in the coming days.
Tickets for Bellator Dublin: Queally vs. Pitbull are available early through an exclusive Bellator Nation pre-sale on Thursday, March 19. Tickets will go on sale to the general public Friday, March 20. Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.ie and Bellator.com, as well as the 3Arena box office.
Queally, who trains out of Ireland’s famous Straight Blast Gym, has fought twice for Bellator – both in Dublin last year – and returns to the scene eager to add another win to his record in front of a partisan home crowd. He has enjoyed mixed fortunes in the Irish capital, having lost his promotional debut in February 2019 against Myles Price via a split decision, before making amends with an impressive second round TKO victory over Englishman Ryan Scope in September 2019. That performance was preceded by arguably one of the most iconic walkouts in Bellator history, as Queally entered the arena to Irish rock band The Cranberries, prompting a mass singalong of their hit “Zombie”, which almost blew the roof off of the 3Arena.
A repeat was promised at Bellator Dublin last month, before injury forced Queally to withdraw from the card to the disappointment of his legion of fans. His absence from that card will only have served to whet the appetite of the Irish public for what promises to be a livewire clash with “Pitbull” in October.
Freire – the older brother of Bellator double champion Patrício – has over 30 professional MMA bouts to his name, along with a fearsome reputation as a knockout artist. Living up to the moniker “Pitbull”, Freire has been in impressive form, wining nine of his past 11 bouts for the promotion including scalps against Josh Thomson, Benson Henderson and Derek Campos.
In an intriguing subplot, Freire faced Ryan Scope in the first ever Bellator European Series event, in Newcastle, England, in February 2019, beating him via a hotly-contested split decision. Freire now has the opportunity to dispatch another of Scope’s conquerors, as he steps out into enemy territory to face one of Irish MMA’s favourite sons in Queally.
