Crucial games ahead for Northern Ireland Senior Women... What do they need to qualify?

Currently sitting third in Group C of the UEFA Qualification for the European Championships Northern Ireland have massed 8 points from their 6 games in the group so far.

With two draws against Wales (who have played one game more) and away victories over Belarus and The Faroes; NIWNT are in a good position to qualify for a play-off spot in the group pending they get two victories in their final two games.

How could NIWNT qualify?

Two wins would see Northern Ireland reach 14 points in the group

Should Wales (currently on 11 points) beat Belarus in their final game, NIWNT would finish level on points with the Welsh, However based on head to head NIWNT would progress to the play-offs as a result of two away goals in the 2-2 draw in match day two back in September 2019.

Should NIWNT only pick up 4 points from the two fixtures they would need the Welsh to draw their final fixture to progress.

As things stand Northern Ireland are in the driving seat, but it will take two composed performances and victories to see the side through to the play-off phase.

Kenny Shiels has put together a great squad with both youth and experience including a first call-up for young Emily Wilson who has been on fire this season in the NIFL Women's Premiership for Crusaders Strikers netting 4 in her last outing vs Cliftonville Ladies.

Fixtures:

Northern Ireland vs Belarus - Friday 27th Nov 2020 - 7pm KO

Northern Ireland vs Faroe Islands - Tuesday 1st Dec 2020 - 7pm KO
