Radical new changes to the 2023 Danske Bank women's premiership

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

It has been a major topic of discussion over the last few seasons that the women's football structure needed addressing and the NIFL have done just that.

When starting out covering the women's game in a media capacity back in 2012 all games were played on a Sunday afternoon allowing players the availability to participate in games however those dual GAA players and Soccer players within the league were left with a dilemma which code to participate in.

This once again could throw up some problems with the new format reverting back to Sunday football from the Wednesday night fixtures e have saw in recent seasons.

However with the Danske Bank Premiership due to start back in April there new exists a varied option of days for fixture fulfilment...

Sunday Fixtures (Double club agreement needed)

Friday Night Fixtures

Wednesday Fixtures

Saturday Fixture (Doubled up pre and post Danske Bank Men's Premiership Fixture)

The above format does appear at first as a positive change, however this now must be analysed in conjunction with the NIWFA governing body.

Shall NIWFA and NIFL fixtures once again clash similar to last season thus diminishing attendances and leaving other players, parents and coaches not able to watch Premiership football.

This shall remain to be seen with both governing bodies due to release their fixture schedule over the coming weeks. Have your say in the comments box below.
