A historic announcement for the Northern Ireland Women's National team as its announced that later this year the IFA shall implement an equal pay scheme bringing the females on par with the mens national team in terms of pay whilst on international duty.
The news broke by the Belfast Telegraph that this evening is a momentous step forward for not only the Women's National Team but women's participation in sport across Northern Ireland.
This comes of the back of a historic year in 2022 which saw the women's team reach their first ever major championships, the Euros held in England with following both at the venues and at home fixtures increase dramatically namely selling out Windsor Park for the home World Cup qualifier against the Lionesses of England.
Hopefully this significant agreement sends out an important message to the next generation of players of the future, in that anyone who represents Northern Ireland at senior level, pulling on the same shirt and are representing the same team from an equal footing.
AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE IRISH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION SHALL BE MADE IN DUE COURSE...
In Wales similar news was officially announced today as The Football Association of Wales has just announced that the men’s and women’s teams will be paid the same for international games up to the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The men’s senior team’s taken a 25% pay cut to achieve the pay equality with the "Together Stronger" being the mantra across the Cymru national teams for all, both on and off the pitch.
