Massive weekend fixture in the NIFL Women's Premiership as Linfield Ladies host Sion Swifts Ladies

Massive weekend fixture in the NIFL Women's Premiership this Sunday as 2019 champions Linfield Ladies take on Sion Swifts Ladies in a fixture that has been rescheduled due to much of the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions placed by the NI Executive over the last few months.

Linfield (16pts) go into the match 2 points clear of Sion but having played a game more after both side drew 2-2 in Strabane late last month with both Sion's goals coming Erin Fildara only to be pegged back after each by strikes from Rebecca McKenna and a sublime finish from returning striker Alison Smyth.

A win for either side will keep them in contention for the title race but only just as Glentoran Women sit top of the tree on 22pts with fixtures against Crusaders Strikers and Sion Swifts Ladies to come.

Any slip up against the Crues on Wednesday night at Seaview could open the door for Sion pending they get two victories over Linfield and Cliftonville, which would set up a final day showdown against the glens at The Oval.

Similarly a win for Linfield over Sion would all but end Sion's league chances and put Linfield in contention if the Glens were to lose their final two fixtures.

In a year that has been ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic we have been blessed to have any sort of fixtures and once again the run in to the league decider shall be on a knife edge with a number of permutations available to three teams in which 2nd placed side Crusaders Strikers could have a huge say on Wednesday with in form Emily Wilson a huge threat for the north Belfast side.
