Northern Ireland Women on the brink of a historic Euro 2022 playoff spot

On Friday night Northern Ireland Women secured a crucial victory in Belfast over Belarus with a 3-2 victory goals coming from Kirsty McGuinness, Rachel Furness and an OG.

This victory moved the girls into 2nd place in Group C ahead of Wales who are also on 11 points but the Northern Irish have a better head to head record over the Welsh courtesy of a 2-2 draw in Newport last September.

Northern Ireland no doubt will go into tonight's game high on confidence after 3 consecutive victories one of which was against tonight's opponents with a 6-0 victory in Torshavin on the 18th September.

Although winning by a handsome margin in the reverse fixture Northern Ireland cannot be complacent against the Faroes to insure qualification to the play-offs.

Knowing a victory or a better result than the Welsh against Belarus in Newport will guarantee Northern Ireland an unprecedented achievement by the girls who have come a long way on the last 5 years under the guidance of both Alfie Wylie and current senior team manager Kenny Shiels.

This progression is extended to the ever growing development of teams and coaches within the Danske Bank Women's Premiership which 15 of the current squad are currently playing in, with a further 3 players who have previously represented clubs in our domestic league before earning moves across the water.

Once again the game shall be played behind closed doors, but the game shall be live streamed by BBC Sport NI via their online service.
